What is VINE®?

VINE is a free, computer-based telephone program that provides victims of crime two important services: information and notification.

Notification

After hearing information, callers may choose to register for an automated notification call when an offender is released, transferred, or escapes. To register for VINE, callers simply enter the phone number, including area code, where they want to be reached. Callers will then be asked to enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for use during notification. The service will automatically call when one of the above events occur.

VINE Facts

• The offender will not know you are registered with VINE.
• If you are not home, VINE will leave a message on an answering machine. If there is no answer, VINE will keep calling back until you enter your PIN or until 24 hours have passed.
• Because VINE calls automatically when an offender’s custody status changes, you may get a call from VINE in the middle of the night. VINE will continue to call every 2 hours until your PIN number is entered. Do not just hang up.
• Do not leave a phone number with VINE that rings to a switchboard.
• Do not depend only on the VINE service, or any other single program for your protection. Make VINE part of your safety plan.
• You can leave more than one phone number with VINE. Just call the VINE service again and register another phone number.
